Description

FaceReader is the premier facial expression training tool for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Unlock the seven universal emotions to become an expert at reading people by learning to recognize subtle expressions and micro-expressions, which appear involuntarily on the face for a fraction of a second.

Micro-Expressions are shown on the face for a fraction of a second, before someone is consciously aware of an emotion. Coupled with subtle expressions, which are expressions displayed only on specific parts of the face, more information is on the face of someone speaking to you than in their words.

Some people, the so-called human lie detector, have a rare natural ability to understand both subtle and natural expressions. However, with training and practice, anyone can get this skill that fewer than 1 in 20, 000 people have!

Less polished, desktop-computer training tools typically cost more than 20 times the price of FaceReader. In addition to that, FaceReader is a teaching and training tool that works where ever you take your iPhone and iPod touch: your training can be done at any convenient time during travel or even while waiting for a date. Within the first hour of training, you will immediately see the practical results of accurately identifying the emotions on anyone's face in real-world situations.

The 40 expressions are categorized by the seven universal emotions, which exhibit themselves across all cultures and societies in the same fashion. Additional emotions and responses, such as embarrassment, jealousy, and suspicion, do not exhibit themselves in universal ways and are less suitable for training. The training in this app is based on the scientific research of prominent psychologists such as P Ekman, JC Hager, WV Friesen, PC Ellsworth, and H Oster.

FaceReader Features:

* Self-paced training course

* Covers detailed expressions of the seven universal emotions:

o Sad / Sadness

o Angry / Anger

o Scared / Fear

o Shock / Surprise

o Disgust

o Contempt

o Happy / Happiness

* Unlimited evaluation and tuning of your face-reading skills

* Train to recognize micro-expressions down to 1/20th of a second

* Teaches how to distinguish between similar expressions

An Excellent Beginner's Tool

:
This App is perfect for 'beginners' in any field, whether business or personal, who wish to tap into people's basic facial reactions and body language. Using FaceReader will help you read people better, plain and simple. What you do with that information depends entirely on you and your understanding of others. It's not a boring instruction manual, either; this App is built around a quizzing & reaction feature that will help you test and hone your skills.

FaceReader is a good augment to any of the numerous schools of facial reading and understanding emotion. What it is NOT is a crash course in FACS or a study guide to turn you into an FBI profiler from the movies. It is NOT a substitute for behavioral sciences or any other advanced courses of study. FaceReader is a starting point - and a good investment. Worst case scenario, you'll win more at poker and improve every conversation.

Not worth 4.99

:
I've read most of Paul Ekman's books.. and this program isn't that bad... He obviously went through the tedious task of taking pictures of his face doing multiple expressions. However, certain expressions the author makes is debateable, and some of them are way to similar (even the ones in the same category, which doesn't leave alot of room for variety.)
It would be nice if there were broader degrees of each expression. Overall a decent app, considering you're into microexpressions..and although I paid the 4.99... i would've felt better if it was 2.99

Great Product

:
This is a great product and my favorite iPhone App. It's really useful for reading faces and goes great with the book "Emotions Revealed" by Paul Ekman.

**Just a few tweeks need to be made to this app. I'm not sure if it's me getting used to the neutral face prior to each expression or if it actually is shown on his face that he is happy/sad/mad, but it's gotten to the point that I can no tell what expression is going to happen before it actually occurs. Might want to look into that one. =)
